NEW SoftwarE for Axon AX50 USB & AX100 mkII

TerraTec AXON Technologies has now successfully established two products on the market with the AX 50 USB and AX 100 MKII. Both have the patented early transient recognition system, with which they set new standards in terms of speed and accuracy in guitar-to-MIDI technology.

But even the best products still have room for improvements! That’s why the AXON specialists at Nettetal are now supplying a new version of the firmware and the editor, offering significant advantages to the user. This software package can be downloaded as of 17th January free of charge at: www.axon-technologies.net.

The most important new functions:

The AXON products now provide “layers” within a play area. These can be used, for example, to activate up to four synthesizers simultaneously with different program change commands and controller data, creating entire “sound walls” through a single tone that is struck.

The integrated sequencer in the AX 100 MKII is now equipped with a Panorama controller, which means it can be positioned in the room independently of the remaining audio signals.

As the AXON models allow up to 8 presets to be programmed for a particular instrument in action, not only the integrated tuner but also the selected instrument preset including type and pickup are displayed – providing a better overview and always maintaining control.

The new Dynamic Control and Aftertouch function for string instruments now supports the option of increasing the volume of the sound by using a bow. This opens up a multitude of new possibilities when it comes to expression and playing sensation.

MIDI and guitar - two different worlds until now. With the AXON AX 100 MKII, the technical problems involved in connecting electric or acoustic guitars and basses to the MIDIfied studio world are finally a thing of the past.

The ultra-fast guitar-to-MIDI controller in a single-unit rack mount has an early-recognition system which evaluates the impulses from the strings as soon as they are picked and converts them into values for pitch, dynamics and length. A 32-bit RISC processor makes it possible, opening up a whole new world of music to the guitarist.

Never again will you have to change guitars to produce a different sound - just switch the MIDI channel. On the AXON AX100 MKII, you can either choose from over 500 internal sounds, 10 drum kits and an SFX kit or trigger external sound devices such as samplers and synthesizers. Then, depending on the sound generator you are using, a guitar can become a synthesizer, an electric piano or a saxophone. Everything is possible - even at the same time. With the 12 play area zones, the AXON AX 100 MKII even makes your guitar multitimbral - you can play different instruments by splitting the fretboard, strings or pick position!

Optional connecting pedals and buttons add effects and even more variety to your playing - as does the built-in arpeggiator. Listen for yourself: the AXON AX 100 MKII marks the beginning of a whole new era for guitarists and bassists.

Let´s Split! - The Split-Variants

Guitaristic virtuosity means mastering the entire technical spectrum. Quick changes between bass notes and high solistic melodies give the guitar its flexible ability. Not a problem with the AXON AX 100 MKII and its string splits and fret splits. Various sounds or timbres can be assigned to the different split areas.

You can for example assign a bass guitar sound to the lower strings and maybe a sax or distortion guitar sound to the upper solo strings, and then for the middle fret split a piano or twelvestring sound.

The AXON AX 100 MKII offers a variety of split possibilities that, in combination with each other, divide the play area of your guitar into various segments according to string and fret splits and pick position. Unbelievable possibilities that you have to try to believe!

Special Effects

Using the modulation wheel on the guitar interface as well as the pick control function, which registers the actual position of your right hand over the string. The AXON AX 100 MKII makes it possible to send every type of CC message directly from your guitar by varying your picking position. In addition, you can use two expression pedals and two foot switches to control hold functions and sequence.

Effects such as reverb, chorus and vibrato can be combined with volume, tremolo and such exotic parameters as filter cutoff, auto-wah and more. You can also control program change and the actual selection of sounds using your on-board mod wheel or pick position. These facts alone make for the most alive and dynamic guitar youve ever played.

MIDI Recordings

This is where the AXON AX 100 MKII shows its true colors. Totally separate MIDI signals for each string instead of the MIDI salad that comes from most other converters make reliable professional or home recordings possible.

You can now take advantage of the myriad of possibilities of multi-track recording, music-page-layout and printing, digital saves and data transport via CD-ROM or via the Internet. It´s a new era for guitarists with the AXON AX 100 MKII.

The Artist: Burr Johnson is an innovative guitarist whose powerful technique and artistic diversity have won wide recognition internationally among both Jazz and Rock audiences. His dazzling repertoire is spiced liberally with flavors of jazz, rock, and blues. Burr has toured nationally with Jazz organist Jack McDuff and has performed with him on various radio performances. He has performed with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and with legendary artists Ray Charles, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Spyro Gyra and James "T-Model" Ford.
